February 9 is clearly a big gantseh megilleh!
Yes, February 9 is the day The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, launching the British Invasion in rock and roll.
But that’s just a footnote to what really makes the day special. It’s National Bagel Day, of course, and a quick glance around the Web to see who was saying or doing what on the holiday in 2010 shows you why the day is so beloved, and why we want to make it even bigger in 2011:
Einstein Bros. The brothers celebrated National Bagel Day with a free bagel offer. Let’s see what they do next year, in 2011!
Bruegger’s Bagels. The maker of the world’s largest bagel surveyed its fans on the Big Day to find out their bagel preferences. The favorite? The everything bagel. No surprise there: it’s our favorite, too! Will it be the favorite in 2011?!
HULIQ The reader-contributed news site summed up the history of the bagel in about three sentences, talked a little about what the big bagel franchises are doing, and shared a recipe for making your own bagels. All in fewer than 400 words! No doubt there will be even more to talk about in 2011!
NowPublic. On this reader-contributed news site, Jordan Yerman urged readers to get out there and eat a bagel! Hey, his post got 127 views, including ours! Next year, his goal should be to get 130 views!
365 Foods Marty Hykin talks about the essence of bagels and lox as only someone who grew up in 1940s Brooklyn can. When 2011 rolls around, et another year will have passed since those halcyon days!
Should we be satisfied with this? Of course not. We have work to do! We must work together to elevate National Bagel Day to its rightful place on the short list of the Great Days of our country. Here on this Web site you can share what you're doing and find all the resources you need to do even more. Together we will make National Bagel Day at least as big as National Doughnut Day!
